When planning your graduation party or graduation open house, you should determine if you want to have a graduation open house or a graduation party. There are some significant distinctions between the two. Graduation open house differs from a graduation party in many ways. A graduation open house usually includes:

  • A graduation open house party is an everyone is invitedĀ graduation party. Tell your friends, relatives, neighbors, the graduate's friends, parent's friends, whomever, the more the merrier!
  • The graduation open house invitations for your graduation open house party should not be mailed with your graduation invitations or graduation announcements. Your gradation open house invitations should be mailed separately. Send your graduation open house invitations via first class mail, approximately 14 days prior to the date of the graduation open house.

A graduation party is limited to only those guests you have invited and usually more organized and fewer people are invited and attend than a graduation open house party. Here's the general information on a graduation party:

  • The graduation party is for close friends, acquaintances and special guests
  • The graduate and the parents should decide together whether to invite children of close friends and relatives
  • Graduation party invitations should be mailed separately from graduation announcements and graduation invitations
  • Remember to give your invited guests the option not to bring a gift
  • Make it clear in the graduation party invitation whether or not a meal is planned, especially if the graduation party is in the evening
  • Enclose directions or an easy-to-read map to help guests find the location of the graduation party
  • Always hand address graduation party invitations
